Opening Night Thursday, July 17th at KC Rep

Thursday July 17h, marks the Official Opening of the 10th Season of KC Fringe Festival. We're so excited to be at the KC Rep again this year. It's located on the campus of UMKC in Spencer Theatre. Plenty of parking is just to the East of the theatre. And, it's all FREE!

The evening begins with "The Fringe Walk". It's the Fringe version of the Red Carpet walk where you'll see Fringe artists all decked out in costumes and regalia. There will be plenty of photo opportunities as Brother John introduces and interviews this year's artists. The Fringe Walk fun starts at 5:30.

The main feature of the evening is the Teasers! Teasers are the theatre equivalent of trailers for movies. Beginning at 7 pm you'll be able to see teasers of 50 (of the 100 shows) of th e 2014 festival productions.

And of course, the night will end with a Fringe party, more pictures and conversations with artists.

It has always been a dream of the KC Fringe Team to add an educational component to our activities. For a number of years we have offered free workshops at YOUth Fringe during the festival. Last season we added teen playwriting workshops and adult classes for beginners through Master Classes with visiting and local artists. But with so much talent and creativity within our artist base we wanted to do more and with that Fringe Academy is born.

Starting last fall we were able to add K-8 art and photography classes in urban schools. Many other classes are under development including youth and teen filmmaker workshops, painting, storytelling, and so many more.... We found a great need and currently have six grade schools waiting for our classes. We found that there are even more schools wanting classes for the coming school year plus many requests for adult classes.

In addition, FringeAcademy provides more ways for Fringe to empower artists with opportunities to teach classes, workshops and bootcamps. These classes and workshops further engage our audiences, encourage creativity and self expression and help create stronger communities that support a broad spectrum of arts and cultural creatives.

About Fringe

KC Fringe is a Missouri-based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to connect adventurous artists with adventurous audiences.

We do this by organizing the KC Fringe Festival, an annual 11-day performing and visual arts extravaganza. It straddles a thin, frayed line between mass appeal and eclectic tastes. Fringe links these two worlds together, showing that it is the bridge you take to be inspired and entertained no matter what your taste may be. Below is what you can expect to experience at Fringe.

iFringe

You are invited to a free, one-hour peek behind the Fringe curtain! Join the iFringe Team for wine and cheese (we’re classy like that) and find out why we created the 11-day arts explosion known as the KC Fringe Festival. It happens every July and is filled with all types of art, ranging from spoken word to theatre. Hear inspiring stories from artists and individuals whose lives have been transformed. Email brentkimmi@kcfringe.org or call 913-205-0999. It's free and fun!

WHAT THE FRUCK?

The Fruck is the Fringe Art Truck — a mobile art gallery, mobile classroom and mobile billboard, and sometimes a mobile canvas. It travels daily throughout the festival (see Fruck schedule).
